The group of the University of Lleida (UdL) and Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida) is currently comprised of three main researchers and their respective research units. All three researchers have a long history of research in the field of autoimmunity, diabetes and obesity, and have carried out I + Di research as the main group researchers for over a decade and a half. All three researchers have been working for a short time in the University of Lleida, and/or Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida and are members of the same research group recognized by the UdL and IRBLleida since its inception.
The objective of the group's research is (immunology unit) the study of the mechanisms for the loss of immune tolerance in auto-immune endocrine diseases, and more specifically in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), and its application in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. The group also aims to lay the foundations for a future immunotherapy of T1D and other endocrinopathies of autoimmune origin, through participation and collaboration with different research and care groups. Meanwhile, the clinical aspect of the Group (endocrinology unit) is mainly directed at:
- Comorbidities associated with morbid obesity and the effect of gastrointestinal surgery
- Confirmation that the lung is a target organ of the chronic complications of type 2 diabetes
- The cardiovascular study of type 1 diabetes and diabetes type LADA. The group also participates actively in the project ILERVAS.
