Arnau Women Research Group

These are the research lines in which members of the Arnau Dona research group have participated over the past five years. Their work covers a wide range of clinical studies in gynecology, obstetrics, and reproductive health.

Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Surgery (Gynecological Laparoscopy):

  • Effectiveness and safety of salpingectomy with minicornucetomy for Essure device removal.
  • Retrospective studies on symptom evolution after Essure explantation.
  • Frequency of nerve injury in lateral trocar placement.
  • Long-term impact of abdominal myomectomy on reproductive outcomes.
  • Comparative analysis of robotic-assisted vs. conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy.
  • Advantages of robotic pelvic surgery in reducing abdominal scars for deep endometriosis.

Endoscopic Approach to Uterine Pathology (Hysteroscopy):

  • Use of virtual reality to reduce anxiety and pain during outpatient hysteroscopy.
  • Ultrasound estimation of retained material volume in hysteroscopic treatment.
  • Hystero-embryoscopy for diagnosing recurrent first-trimester miscarriage.
  • OPPIUM technique for preparing type 2 fibroids for surgical removal.
  • Safety and effectiveness of hysteroscopic morcellation for retained products.
  • Prediction of Lasmar classification via gynecological ultrasound.
  • Estimation of blood loss during hysteroscopic myomectomy.

Reproductive Medicine:

  • Tubal patency assessment using hysterosonosalpingography and its relation to Chlamydia infection.
  • Chlamydia trachomatis as a risk factor for infertility.
  • Development of clinical protocols for assisted reproduction in Catalonia.
  • Multicenter trial on contraceptive efficacy and safety of dienogest/ethinyl estradiol.

Endometriosis:

  • Molecular and phenotypic complexity of endometriosis using omics and new models.
  • Personalized medicine approaches and biomarker validation for diagnosis and recurrence prediction.
  • Detection of molecular biomarkers in menstrual blood, saliva, and venous blood.
  • Comparative molecular studies of endometrium in patients with and without endometriosis.

Gynecological Ultrasound:

  • Elastography parameters in normal and pathological myometrium.
  • Differentiation between myoma and adenomyoma using ultrasound.
  • Correlation of preoperative ultrasound findings with surgical and MRI results in deep endometriosis.

Gynecological Cancer:

  • Role of ARID1A in endometrial carcinogenesis and therapeutic implications.
  • Rapid detection of lymph node metastasis in cervical and endometrial cancer using OSNA.
  • Use of Glubran 2® to reduce seroma in axillary lymphadenectomy.
  • Utility of 2D/3D ultrasound in preoperative staging of endometrial and cervical cancer.
  • Liquid biopsy strategies for risk evaluation and personalized therapy in endometrial cancer.
  • Multicenter studies on diagnostic indices for pelvic adnexal tumors.

Pelvic Floor Pathology:

  • Use of acellular dermal matrix and ligament fixation for prolapse treatment.
  • Long-term follow-up and management of obstetric anal sphincter injuries.

High-Risk Pregnancy - Placental Pathology:

  • Screening for preeclampsia in twin pregnancies.
  • Management of early-onset fetal growth restriction using angiogenic factors and Doppler.
  • Incorporation of sFlt1/PlGF ratio in preeclampsia diagnosis.

High-Risk Pregnancy - Maternal Pathology:

  • Retinal microvasculature angiography in healthy and diabetic pregnant women.
  • Outcomes in pregnancies of advanced maternal age.
  • Randomized trials to reduce cesarean rates in obese pregnant women.
  • Outcomes following myomectomy.

Childbirth Care:

  • National studies on induction methods and maternal/perinatal morbidity and mortality.
  • Effectiveness and safety of double balloon cervical induction.
  • Participation in Spanish registry of maternal and perinatal morbidity.
