Mamapop is funding two breast cancer projects at the IRBLleida
The initiative will allocate 88,085 euros to two innovative research projects led by researchers from IRBLleida
The MAMAPOP Association is funding two breast cancer research projects at the Lleida Institute of Biomedical Research (IRBLleida) thanks to the launch of the first edition of the MamaProjects2026 call for proposals. This initiative aims to promote breast cancer research by funding competitive projects carried out by the institute's research groups. The call for proposals has a total budget of 88,085 euros provided by MAMAPOP, drawn from the proceeds of concerts held in 2025. This funding will enable two projects to be funded over a two-year period, from 2027 to 2029.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing collaboration between the two organisations, which has been in place since 2014. Over this period, MAMAPOP has allocated 407,970 euros to IRBLleida's research projects, contributing to the development of new lines of research, the achievement of significant scientific results and the strengthening of Lleida's role in biomedical research.
The call for proposals is open to proposals addressing any area of breast cancer research and innovation, ranging from basic research to translational studies, the development of new technologies, clinical validation or solutions based on artificial intelligence. Proposals must demonstrate scientific excellence, innovative potential and the capacity to generate a significant clinical, social or commercial impact for those affected by this disease.
Each selected project will receive a grant of 44,042.50 euros. Proposals will be assessed by independent external experts, who will evaluate aspects such as scientific quality, translational potential, feasibility, the composition of the research team and the future impact of the results.
The call for proposals opens today, 19 October 2026. The final decision is scheduled for 10 December 2026, and the selected projects will commence on 1 January 2027.
Through this initiative, MAMAPOP and IRBLleida are strengthening their shared commitment to breast cancer research and to generating knowledge that will help improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and the quality of life of those affected. The call for proposals is also an example of how civil society engagement can be transformed into real opportunities to advance biomedical research and have a positive impact on public health
