IRBLleida and FECYT launch a new program of twelve activities to promote science culture in Lleida

IRBLleida divulga 2026-27 is the name of the project, which includes a total of twelve activities that will be carried out between July 2026 and June 2027 to bring science closer to the public. The project is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). It is a program aimed at different audiences (children, young people, adults and seniors) with ongoing activities and new proposals.

As a new feature for the 2026-2027 edition, there will be a collaboration with the Força Lleida basketball club. IRBLleida will provide training sessions for the youth divisions of the Força Lleida basketball club. These talks will cover key topics such as nutrition and muscle recovery, injury prevention, research in physical therapy, and how the brain manages psychological pressure. Another new feature is the creation of a scientific puppet by the theater company La Màxima from the Ilersis foundation, an organization that works for the social and employment inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, or at risk of exclusion.

On the other hand, the program maintains its firm commitment to the science outreach activities that have already been established in previous editions. This is the case with Research Night or the organization of 14 science workshops for 1st ESO students. For high school students, the Inspiracy Day is being repeated, along with the opportunity to spend time with a research team at IRBLleida. Finally, paper tablecloths with basic research concepts will also be designed and distributed in the cafeterias of the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital complex in Lleida.

Additionally, the commitment to promoting scientific knowledge also extends to the publication of the second issue of LleidaLab, the first scientific outreach magazine in the Ponent region, which will include various articles by the center's research staff. In parallel, the second season of the S-Àvies podcast is launching, where older adults and researchers will continue sharing perspectives on topics of social interest such as cancer, Alzheimer's, and healthy aging. The seventh edition of the Som Recerca event will also be held, in which representatives from the IRBLleida Patient Commission will explain how they are involved and collaborate on the center's research projects.

These activities have been designed to foster scientific and critical thinking among the public and to highlight the center's research work. In this regard, the goal is to encourage citizen participation in the scientific and technological field, to provide tools to combat misinformation, and to promote the generation of knowledge with the utmost rigor.
