IRBLleida Launches the Transformative Social Innovation Laboratory to Generate Solutions to Social and Health Challenges in Western Catalonia Thanks to ERDF Funding

The initiative will strengthen research as a driver of social transformation and foster cooperation among the different stakeholders in the region

The Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida) is taking a new step in its commitment to socially impactful research through the launch of the Transformative Social Innovation Laboratory (LIST), a strategic unit aimed at coordinating and generating solutions to social and health challenges in Western Catalonia. The initiative is made possible through €300,000 in co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme of Catalonia 2021-2027.

The creation of the LIST office is part of IRBLleida's Transformative Research and Innovation Project (PRIT) and aims to strengthen the institute's capacity to develop innovative solutions to current health and wellbeing challenges. The LIST office will serve as a coordination and support hub for transformative innovation and will promote new forms of collaboration among researchers, public institutions, companies, social organisations and citizens. This structure will help identify opportunities, promote initiatives with territorial impact and facilitate the effective transfer of knowledge generated at IRBLleida.

The new office will be directly linked to IRBLleida's Projects Department and will include the recruitment of an innovation officer to manage the project. Several innovation fields and activities will be organised until 2028, when the project is scheduled to conclude.

Furthermore, the deployment of LIST will be aligned with the priorities of RIS3CAT 2030 and the region's shared agendas, reinforcing IRBLleida's commitment to the social and economic development of the Lleida region. This connection will help direct research activities towards solving real-world problems and promote a more open, participatory and society-centred approach to innovation.

Through this initiative, IRBLleida strengthens its role as a key actor in the generation of biomedical knowledge and in transforming that knowledge into innovative solutions that contribute to improving people's health and quality of life.
