The mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, presented the 23 medals and 11 plaques at an official ceremony at the Seu Vella
Lleida City Council has presented the Institute for Biomedical Research (IRBLleida) with an award in recognition of its leadership in biomedical research and the popularisation of science in Lleida. The Central Hall of the Seu Vella hosted the official ceremony for the presentation of the medals and plaques awarded by Lleida City Council to individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves through their track record, commitment and contribution to the social development and identity of the city of Lleida. In total, the mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, presented 34 awards, including 23 medals to individuals - some posthumously - and 11 plaques to organisations in recognition of their work in the fields of culture, education, sport, solidarity, research and the farming community.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of members of the municipal council and representatives from various institutions and social organisations.
The mayor stated that with this public honour, "we celebrate the excellence of our civil society" and "the city is putting on record, for all time, its gratitude for everything that the organisations and distinguished individuals have contributed". In this regard, he highlighted the "human qualities and commitment" of the award winners and added that this is "our main asset for the future, a heritage that we must preserve, strengthen and make highly visible."
Finally, the mayor emphasised that all the honourees "are a source of pride for Lleida" and that "they inspire us, set the direction, and remind us that a city's progress depends largely on the quality of its people, on our ability to come together and work in unison, with a positive outlook, for our shared future."
Diego Arango, director of IRBLleida, accepted the award
