‘S-àvies a l’IRBLleida’, 6 short video podcasts featuring researchers and ‘older people’ from Lleida

These are discussions about cancer, stroke, COVID-19 and other topics of interest to the public

Lola Yepes and Anabel Sorolla are the two protagonists of the first video podcast, 'S-àvies a l'IRBLleida'. The two engage in a conversation that blends science and personal experience on the subject of breast cancer. This is the first episode of this new project by the Lleida Institute for Biomedical Research (IRBLleida), in which six pairs will discuss topics of interest to society, such as pain, cancer, stroke and healthy ageing...

'S-àvies a l'IRBLleida' launches in 2026 with the participation of six researchers from IRBLleida:

  • Anabel Sorolla, postdoctoral researcher in the GREBIC group
  • Manel Pérez, trainee researcher in the Clinical and Molecular Phenotyping (CMP) group
  • Alberto Martínez, trainee researcher in the Clinical Neurosciences group
  • Montse Gea, head of the Research group of health care (GReCS)
  • Jordi de Batlle, postdoctoral researcher in the Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine group
  • Judith Roca, postdoctoral researcher in the GREISI group

The episodes focus on dialogue between generations, the memories of those who have lived through different times, and the vital role of biomedical research in gaining a better understanding of diseases. In the first episode, researcher Anabel Sorolla talks to Lola Yepes, a resident at the Lleida Geriatric Centre, who shares her memories of when her sister-in-law suffered from breast cancer many years ago, at a time when cancer was often endured in silence and was rarely discussed within families.

Building on this personal account, the programme reflects on how our understanding of and approach to breast cancer has changed: from a time marked by fear, stigma and a lack of information, to the present day, where scientific research has led to advances in diagnosis, treatment and survival rates.

The project has benefited from the collaboration of the Geriatric Centre, the Parco del Segre Day Centre and Care Home, the Col·legi d'Infermeres i Infermers de Lleida, and other care homes in the Lleida region.

The podcasts can be found on the usual platforms (Spotify, Youtube) and the OTT de Lleida TV.

This activity is made possible thanks to the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
