More than 260 people participate in the 3rd Walk and 1st Orienteering Race organised by IRBLleida

The money raised from registrations and donations with the zero bib number amounted to €1,874

More than 260 people took part yesterday, Sunday 19 October, in the 3rd "Marxa IRBLleida, caminem per la investigació" (IRBLleida Walk, Walk for Research) and the 1st IRBLleida Orienteering Race. The money raised from registrations and donations with the zero bib number amounted to €1,874.

The Dr. Pifarré Foundation Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida) promoted this activity, organised by XT Sport Events by Xavi Thai, to raise funds for research. As in the previous two years, two routes were planned, one of 5 km and one of 10 km, around the IRBLleida (Avda. Alcalde Rovira Roure, 80). In addition, those who were unable to attend were offered the opportunity to contribute by purchasing a zero bib number.

This year, for the first time, an orienteering race was also organised, with 30 groups participating in the four categories: family, mixed, men's and women's. The participating teams, which could have a minimum of two and a maximum of four people, searched for six landmarks around the same route as the walk. At each landmark, they found different pieces of a puzzle, and when they had them all, they returned to the Biomedicine building to put it together.

In addition, the teams found scientific messages at each milestone. Messages related to World Breast Cancer Day. The Association of Women Who Have Had Breast Surgery, ADIMA, read its annual World Breast Cancer Day manifesto as part of the IRBLleida March. This event is commemorated every 19th of October, and this year, ADIMA and the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida) joined forces to raise awareness of this initiative. The manifesto was read by Carme Valls, Councillor for Feminist Policies at Lleida City Council, just before the start of the sporting event.
