Claudia Henschke, a top radiologist and pioneer in lung cancer screening worldwide, is giving a lecture to healthcare professionals in Lleida
Thirty years ago, he laid the foundations for the lung cancer screening programme that is now followed worldwide.
The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida (HUAV) and the Institute for Biomedical Research (IRBLleida) are participating, along with 90 centres around the world, in an international research project on lung cancer screening funded by the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The aim of the project is to improve the prognosis of lung cancer patients through early diagnosis.
The project leader, Mount Sinai Hospital radiologist Dr Claudia Henschke, visited the HUAV and IRBLleida facilities today and gave a lecture to healthcare professionals in Lleida on the history of lung cancer screening. Dr Henschke is a pioneer and leading expert in diagnostic radiology with more than 30 years of clinical and research experience in lung cancer screening and has led the implementation of numerous lung screening programmes at state, national and international level. She is the author of more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and numerous scientific presentations, and has trained dozens of medical and clinical research professionals.
The session was presented by Dr Jessica González, a specialist from the Pulmonology Service in Lleida and head of the screening programme, who trained in this field with Dr Henschke during two stays at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. 'Dr Henschke's presence in Lleida is very significant and represents the region's commitment to advancing lung cancer screening programmes in our country,' said Dr González.
