The fifth edition of the IRBLleida-‘la Caixa’ Foundation science education programme to bring biomedical research closer to young people gets under way
The initiative will support workshops and scientific talks, stays and the Research Night at the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida
For the fifth consecutive year, the Lleida region will have the IRBLleida-'la Caixa' Foundation science education programme promoted by the 'la Caixa' Foundation, through CaixaBank, to bring biomedical research closer to young people. This programme was created with the aim of fostering scientific vocations and raising awareness of research in the region.
In this edition, it includes the organisation of 14 scientific workshops, 6 grants to high school students for a stay at the IRBLleida, the organisation of the Research Night 2025, the workshop "Little heroes and heroines, great scientists and scientists" at the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova and the organisation of talks to promote scientific culture and critical thinking in the local community to libraries and schools in the province of Lleida.
The scientific workshop "Exploring the world of research" has the dual aim of encouraging scientific vocations among young people aged 12 to 16 and, at the same time, to raise awareness of biomedical research for the benefit of the population. The workshop is made up of a more informative part and a second part, in which the students do a practical workshop following the scientific method.
As for the grants for high school students, the programme includes a grant for 6 first-year high school students from the Lleida area to spend a month at the IRBLleida and meet a group of researchers who are working in the field of biomedical research in the Lleida region.
