Bruno Brotons, from the Molecular Oncology research group at IRBLleida, in the final of the 'thesis in 4 minutes'

Bruno Brotons Morales, graduate in Biomedical Sciences and master in Biomedical Research from the University of Lleida (UdL), has been the winner of the semifinal of the contest Present your thesis in 4 minutes. With a work on possible new therapies for colorectal cancer patients, this researcher will represent the UdL in the final of this contest, which will take place in Girona on July 3rd.

Organized by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, the twelve Catalan universities and the Generalitat de Catalu.a, it aims to raise the challenge of explaining their research in a simple and understandable way for a general public and in just 4 minutes.

This is what Bruno Brotons has done, choosing the best by the jury among the six participants -five girls- of the doctoral programs in Health, Engineering and Information Technologies, Law and Business Administration and Physical Activity and Sport of the UdL. The jury, which has highlighted the level of all presentations, has valued the communicative skills of the doctoral student, proportionality when addressing the different parts of his thesis, the similes employed and the extrapolation of data in relation to Lleida.

The research of the UdL PhD student, led by IRBLleida, is based on the discovery of a new tumor suppressor gene and the future application of more personalized and effective therapies for colorectal cancer patients, he explains. "Search for 2500 people in Lleida could benefit from the results of this thesis," he added.

The gallards that will be distributed in the final of Girona are a first prize of 3,000 euros; a second, of 2,000 euros; a public prize of 1,000 euros and a special mention to the impulse and promotion of the Catalan language, also endowed with 1,000 euros, which takes away the number of the astroma and mathematics Maria Assumpció Català i Poch.
