The IRBLleida en route continues for the second year with scientific workshops in the county capitals of Lleida
Two activities are offered every Saturday for children from 5 to 8 years old and from 9 to 12 years old
With the aim of bringing research closer to the population and children, the IRBLleida has promoted the second edition of the activity "IRBLleida en route", a series of scientific workshops held in the county capitals of the demarcation of Lleida. Cervera, Balaguer, les Borges Blanques and Solsona are the four capitals that have already hosted the first workshops this year, which have been attended by more than 150 people. On 12 April it will be the turn of La Seu d'Urgell. In May, the workshops will be held in Pont de Suert and Tremp, and in June they will take place in Mollerussa and Tàrrega. The calendar for Vielha and Sort is also pending definition.
‘IRBLleida en route' is a project to improve territorial inequality in Lleida and bring biomedical research closer to the 11 county capitals of the region. The proposal aims to bring scientific dissemination to rural areas by combining the practical application of the scientific method with the promotion of the exchange of ideas and teamwork. It also aims to present science as an attractive area for the promotion of future scientific vocations and to offer scientific content that comes from reliable sources and is based on scientific evidence.
The company Funbrain is in charge of managing the two workshops organised on Saturdays. One is aimed at young people aged 5 to 8 years old and is entitled "Detectives in the laboratory" and is about experimenting with starch and vitamin C to learn about their characteristics. And the other for 9 to 12 year olds entitled "The cell and DNA" which aims, using the scientific method, to identify a problem, formulate a hypothesis, experiment, collect data and draw conclusions, analysing the difference between animal and plant cells.
Funding for this activity is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
