The researcher Manuel Sánchez de la Torre, recognized with the prestigious grant Ramón y Cajal of the State Research Agency

Awarded according to curricular merits and leadership ability

The researcher at the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida), Manuel Sánchez de la Torre, has received a grant from Ramón y Cajal from the 2019 call of the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The researcher ranks third on the list of 25 grants awarded in the Biomedicine area. This is the first aid for a researcher hired by IRBLleida, in a very competitive call and with few options due to the large number of applications submitted.

This prestigious aid is aimed at promoting the incorporation of research personnel with an outstanding track record in R&D centers. The selection is based on a rigorous process of competitive concurrence of the candidates based on their curricular merits and their ability to lead a line of research, based on scientific and professional experience as well as the independence of their career. This is a total financial aid of € 208,600 for five years.

Sánchez de la Torre, who is also a professor at the University of Lleida and deputy director of IRBLleida, leads the research group Precision Medicine Group in Chronic Diseases, which focuses on personalized medicine research. The group's objective is to understand the pathophysiological components of chronic diseases to develop non-pharmacological strategies and precision medicine tools to promote the prevention and treatment of diseases, and to create platforms for clinical follow-up, telemedicine and personalized follow-up.
