Up to 840 children will be able to take part in a scientific activity at the Research Institute funded by the 'la Caixa' Foundation and FECYT

Up to 840 children from schools in the Lleida area can take part in a science workshop at IRBLleida during the 2025-2026 academic year. IRBLleida has today relaunched the IRBLleida-Fundación 'la Caixa' science education programme, which is also co-funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), to bring biomedical research closer to young people.

In total, IRBLleida is offering 14 workshops for 1st year secondary school students, in which they will be given an introduction to research for the benefit of health. Entitled "Exploring the world of research", they will learn about the relationship between different diseases and their respective causes, the representation of DNA replication and mutations in nucleotides, the identification of the parts of a medicine, and they will become scientific staff in a hospital clinical diagnosis laboratory.

The 14 workshops on offer have been publicised in all schools in the Lleida area. The schools have chosen the days on which they are available, with a maximum of 60 students per school. All the workshops are currently full.

Around 750 children in their first year of secondary school took part in a science workshop at IRBLleida during the 2024-2025 academic year
