Dermatologists from Lleida participate in the campaign Euromelanoma 2025 with free reviews

This is a European initiative on prevention and early diagnosis of skin cancer

Specialists in dermatology at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital (HUAV) and skin cancer research staff at the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida), led by the head of dermatology at the HUAV and principal researcher at IRBLleida, Rosa Maria Martí, will participate, once again, as volunteers in the Euromelanoma campaign in Spain, which will take place in June 2025. Dermatologists will perform skin check-ups on those who request it through the campaign website: https://euromelanoma.aedv.es/

The initiative is designed to promote awareness, prevention and early diagnosis of skin cancer in the European population. Every year around 1,000,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer are diagnosed in the world that generate about 65,000 deaths per year. In the last decade, cases of melanoma, the skin cancer with the worst prognosis, have increased by almost 50% and stand at 287,723 annual diagnoses throughout the planet. In Spain, every month, around 300 people are diagnosed with skin melanoma. The incidence rate of skin cancer has doubled in our country in recent decades

There are several risk factors that predispose to the development of skin cancer. Anyone who is concerned about any stain on their skin can take a self-diagnosis test, available on the web, and, if they belong to a risk group (people who have often burned due to the sun for leisure reasons, outdoor workers, athletes, people with clear skin or multiple moles, etc.), they can access a thorough skin review by a volunteer dermatologist.
