Dr. José Manuel Porcel, head of the Internal Medicine Department at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, as well as professor at the University of Lleida (UdL) and researcher at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRBLleida), was distinguished yesterday in London with the title of Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). This distinction is awarded to professionals who have made outstanding contributions to clinical medicine, whether in the areas of care, teaching or research.
The Royal College of Physicians usually awards this distinction to professionals from the United Kingdom or Commonwealth countries and on rare occasions selects scientists from the international sphere. In the case of José Manuel Porcel, the award is based on his contribution to the knowledge and teaching of pleural diseases. The Royal College of Physicians of London was founded in 1518 and is the most prestigious medical organisation in the UK.
José Manuel Porcel was also honoured in April 2024 with the title of Master of the American College of Physicians, the highest title that can be achieved in this medical organisation, the largest in the USA.
