IRBLleida is consolidating its scientific growth and strengthening its role as a driving force in biomedical research, with 408 publications in 2025

The Lleida Institute for Biomedical Research (IRBLleida) has brought 2025 to a close by consolidating its scientific and institutional growth, with a total of 408 scientific publications, 62 per cent of which appeared in first-quartile (Q1) journals - an indicator that demonstrates the excellence and impact of the research carried out at the centre. These figures form part of the 2025 Annual Report.

For the director of IRBLleida, Diego Arango, 2025 has been a year of shared effort, scientific progress and institutional consolidation. "The institute's greatest asset is its people: a talented, committed and ambitious team determined to continue driving forward research that helps transform real-world challenges into improvements in health."

In 2025, IRBLleida had a staff of 623 professionals, including 530 researchers, spread across 37 research groups and led by 108 principal investigators. The annual budget stood at 11.9 million euros, which enabled the launch of 36 new competitive projects, the initiation of 51 new clinical trials and the achievement of a cumulative impact factor of 2,331.15.

The annual report also highlights internationalisation, knowledge transfer, scientific outreach activities and a commitment to the local region. The IRBLleida continues to establish itself as a leading centre for biomedical research, bringing together the University of Lleida and the leading hospitals in the Poniente region.

Looking ahead, the director emphasises that the institute is tackling new challenges with a determination to continue growing, reinforce scientific excellence and have an ever-greater impact on people's health.
