Manuel Sánchez de la Torre, new Scientific Director of the Institute for Health Research of Castilla-la Mancha

Until now he was a Ramon y Cajal researcher at the University of Lleida and head of the Precision Medicine in Chronic Diseases research group at IRBLleida

The Ramon y Cajal researcher at the University of Lleida (UdL) and head of the Precision Medicine in Chronic Diseases research group at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Lleida (IRBLleida), Manuel Sánchez de la Torre, has been appointed this March as the new Scientific Director of the Institute for Health Research of Castilla-la Mancha (IDISCAM). He also joins the University of Castilla-La Mancha as a Ramon y Cajal researcher.

Manuel Sánchez de la Torre has developed an extensive professional career in Lleida in the field of biomedical research with more than 160 original publications, the direction of 9 doctoral theses and more than 1600 hours of university teaching.

Manuel Sánchez has been Deputy Scientific Director of IRBLleida, National Coordinator of Sleep Research at the Centro de Investigación en Red de Enfermedades Respiratorias (CIBERES) and the Spanish Society of Pneumology (SEPAR). He is currently the Director of the Scientific Committee of SEPAR, and Group Chair in Basic and Translational Research of the European Respiratory Society. In 2023 he has received the designation of Fellow from the American Thoracic Society, a badge of honour that recognises professionals for their outstanding contributions to the society for research work in the fields of respiratory medicine, critical care and sleep medicine. IDISCAM now joins, "to contribute to the growth, development and recognition of excellence in biomedical research in Castilla-La Mancha" explained Sánchez de la Torre. He takes over the position left by Vicenç Martínez Ibáñez.
