IRBLleida joins the activities of International Day of Women and Girls with a video featuring researchers from the Institute

To give visibility to the work of women who are dedicated to STEM areas

One more year, February 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science and many activities are held to give visibility to the work of women who are dedicated to STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Lleida (IRBLleida) joins this initiative to create female role models for girls and promote practices that contribute to achieving gender equality in the scientific field.

In this context, IRBLleida has created a video starring researchers from the Institute with the aim of making them visible and showing female references in biomedical research. The video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v.bTUm33gD39c. The activity is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

In addition, IRBLleida has collaborated with the Department of Citizenship and Feminisms of the Tàrrega City Council in a campaign to make visible the female contribution in the various scientific fields. The consistory has published illustrative posters that explain the biographies of fifteen women scientists from the 19th to the 21st centuries, pioneers in this field. These are Marie Curie, Netiie Stevens, Rosalind Franklin, Rita Levi Montalcini, Margarita Salas Falgueras, Lynn Margulis, Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna. Likewise, the "Scientists who inspire" campaign also spreads the lives of seven IRBLleida scientists. They are Maite Caus Enríquez, researcher of the Vascular and Renal Translational Research group, and Cristina Pereira Priego, member of the Clinical Neurosciences group; Mariona Pont Gòdia and Marta Marqués Sunción, both from the Cancer Biomarkers Research group; Marina Laplana Lafaja, member of the research group Models of diseases in Drosophila and experimental analysis (epi)genetics; Anna This material has been distributed in municipal buildings, educational centers and poster elements of the city.
