It will finance scientific workshops and stays at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida

For the second year running, the Lleida region will be taking part in the IRBLleida-"la Caixa" Foundation science education programme to bring biomedical research closer to young people. This programme was created with the aim of encouraging scientific vocations and raising awareness of research in the region. In this edition, it includes the organisation of 12 scientific workshops and 6 grants for high school students to spend time at the IRBLleida.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, more than 650 children aged 12 to 16 from 13 schools in the Lleida area took part in a scientific workshop at IRBLleida. In the workshops, the students made a first approach to what is research for the benefit of health, met research staff from Lleida and carried out a practice on DNA.

A total of 14 open workshops were held in all the schools in the district, with the participation of the following schools: Institut Seròs, Institut El Pont de Suert, Institut Ermengol IV de Bellcaire d'Urgell, Institut Antoni Torroja de Cervera, Col-legi Mare de Déu de les Borges Blanques, Institut Joan Solà de Torrefarrera, Institut la Caparella de Lleida, Institut la Mitjana de Lleida, FEDAC Lleida, Col-legi Mater Salvatoris de Lleida, Institut Maria Rúbies de Lleida, Col-legi Sant Jaume les Heures de Lleida and Institut Escola Torre Queralt de Lleida.
