Presentation of Sexually Transmitted Infection screening programmes in Lleida

A conference organised by the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital and the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida

The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital (HUAV) and the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida) are organising the presentation of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening programmes. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) have increased significantly in recent years. One of the tools to reduce the number of cases and their consequences is to initiate screening and early detection programmes. In this conference we will learn about some initiatives carried out in our territory and new actions to control HIV and other STIs in Catalonia.

The conference will take place on 26 May, from 9:00 to 14:00, in room 0.22 of the Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lleida. The opening session will be led by the director of the PCAVIHV programme (Prevention, Control and Care of HIV, STIs and Viral Hepatitis) of the Public Health Agency of Catalonia, Joan Colom Farran.

Experiences of STI screening in Lleida, such as the community chlamydia screening programme, the VIGHilia project in Lleida on HIV detection in the Emergency Department and the syphilis and HCV screening of the Lleida Anti-AIDS Foundation will be some of the sessions on display. New proposals for the control of STIs will also be presented, such as the use of PREP to reduce HIV transmission, the new sexuality centre in the city of Lleida and research into alternative treatments for syphilis.
